SCF&R is a seasonal, First Responder, non-transport unit licensed by the Idaho State EMS Bureau to provide emergency medical services in our service area. The Owyhee County Sheriff’s office provides radio dispatch.
SCF&R provides services to all injured and ill persons without discrimination.
SCF&R is in service from June 1 to November 1 of each year. Snow fall closes the roads to Silver City usually in early November. Owyhee County plows the snowdrifts to open the road by Memorial Day in the spring.
In 2008, nine First Responders provide service with the EMS unit.
An Idaho State EMS Bureau Vehicle Grant funded the purchase of a 2008 Ford F-350, four wheel drive pickup with a utility bed. We designed the EMS/Rescue vehicle for local conditions, and we are very pleased with its performance.
SCF&R volunteers continue to train in CardioPulmonary Resuscitation, Automatic Electronic Defibrillator, Oxygen Administration, Bloodborne Pathogens, Epinephrine Auto Injector Administration, Extrication, Low-angle Rescue, and as Landing Zone Officers.
